You use the wrong adapter.
The MacBook is connected (if you've bought) is the new MacBook LED. It has mini DisplayPort one, NO MiniDV. While MiniDV adapter does not work.
Do not use VGA. You need to connect mini DisplayPort to DVI and a DVI to HDMI cable to your LCD TV.
